The list of the Grammy Award nominees has recently been released and some of our African artists graciously made that list.
Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer who came into limelight in 2018 with her music Rebel whose beat had been produced by her has had many successes both with her singles and features. For the 2023 grammy award, she has been nominated for writing on Beyonce’s renaissance album and for Rapper Drake’s “Wait for U” which is nominated under best rap song category and best melodic performance category which sums her nomination up to three for the Grammys.
Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu,Nigerian artist popularly known as Burna Boy has had so many hit songs two of which bagged him a nomination in the grammys. He has been nominated for the third time in a row under best global music performance category for “Last last” and best global music album category for “Love, Damini”.
A Beninese superstar, a 4 time grammy award winner and a 12 time grammy nominee known for her innovative blending of diverse musical styles has been nominated again under best global music album category and best song written for visual media category for her “Keep rising” in Woman king.
Edrisa Musuuza popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, a 32-year old Ugandan singer becomes the first Ugandan to be nominated for a Grammy award. He has been nominated for best global music performance.
Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode both South-African singers, have been nominated for their performances of hit single “Bayethe”.
Ghana’s reggae legend and three times Grammy award nominee, Rocky Dawuni has been nominated under best global music performance category for his song “Neva bow down”.
USA songwriting competition winner and fourth time grammy award nominee, South-Africa’s own Wouter Kellerman has been nominated under the best global music performance category.
The extensive list of the 65th Grammy Award nomination was released on Tuesday, 15th of November, 2022 and the award will be held at Los Angeles on Sunday, February 3rd, 2023.
