Oba Adedokun Ominiyi Abolarin is the Orangun of Oke-Ila Orangun, a breakaway town and the capital of Ifadayo Local Government in Osun State. He is a born teacher, political scientist and a legal practitioner. He is a devoted christian although he stated that christianity to him is a means of worship and not to create an artificial barrier. He was not born with a silver spoon but he has worked so hard to be where he is today and is working hard to create a huge impact in the world.
Oba Abolarin has opened a school that is tuition free, offers free hostel, free food, free internet, free uniform, uninterrupted power supply and free laptop for every child.
This school has been established for the poor and brilliant; someone from a comfortable family cannot be granted admission into this school. To be admitted, you will have to write an exam and be interviewed thoroughly after which the family of the child will be visited to be told of the child’s admission if the child succeeds.
The name of this school is Abolarin College located at Oke-Ila Orangun. The school took off from his private building in 2014 before moving to his present site, a magnificent state of the arts structure, valued above fifty million Naira.
Oba Abolarin is also a teacher in this school. He said his aim for the establishment of this school is for poor, brilliant kids to have the same opportunity the rich kids have in knowledge acquisition. He sees education as a light and a potential machinery for development. The school is open to everyone irrespective of their religion or ethnic background.
His mission is to use the school to fight poverty and promote art and culture, promote peaceful living and oneness in Nigeria.
To the children, Oba Abolarin is more than the owner of the school. He teaches the students Government and History, he offers mentorship, counseling, leadership, fatherhood and more than anything else, friendship.
He also said that he believes so much in human capital investment and his contribution in their lives is not free in the real sense. When they are out of the school and have become something, they owe it to their community to give back. He said some Nigerians have been giving their widow’s mite and contributing to this vision.
The Oba is married to one wife. Getting married to so many wives will not enable him to carry out all his plans, according to him.
