In January, 2015 Senegal started the construction of the second public University in the capital Dakar.

In April, the President announced that the University will be named after Professor Amadou Mahtar M’Bow, former director general of UNESCO and government minister. Amadou presided over Senegal’s Assises Nationales in 2008, a debate that resulted in the country’s charter of Democratic Governance. He currently chairs the National Commission of Reform of Institutions.

The budget of the university was US$107.5million, partly financed by the World Bank. The university will be directed to sciences, technologies, profession, economics, management and social sciences and it will accommodate forty thousand students.

Senegal is proud to announce the inauguration of the Amadou Mahtar M’Bow University of Dakar.
