Morocco won their match against Spain in a 3-0 penalty shootout to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time.

Morocco has become the fourth African nation to reach the quarter-finals in the FIFA World Cup, standing as the last remaining team from Africa and the only Arab team left in Qatar. 

The Atlas Lions will face Portugal in the quarter-final on Saturday 10th December.

The match which took place at the Education City Stadium had many Moroccans jubilating with joy when their football team beat Spain. 

Morocco’s Sabiri, Ziyech and Achraf Hakimi converted the first, third and seventh penalties to three goals respectively.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco is the fourth African team to reach the last eight of the World Cup – after Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.

Prior to their victory on Tuesday, Morocco had their best result in the biggest soccer tournament in 1986 when they reached the last 16.

Morocco’s win is victory for all Africans, the Arab World and also all the nations that believed in them.
