Nigeria and Morocco are strengthening their cooperation through the mega Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline.
Morocco’s national office of hydrocarbons and mines has signed five new memoranda of Understanding with several countries. The agreement was signed with Nigeria, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Ghana.
The agreement by these countries shows the countries’ determination to support the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project which seeks to improve energy infrastructure in the region.
The project is 5,600 kilometers long and it will span over more than 11 countries along the Atlantic Coast. Morocco will contain 1,672 kilometers of the pipeline, which will transport Nigeria gas to Europe through the North African country; Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and Benin.
This project will ensure the further integration and cooperation between West African countries and improve socio-economic development in Africa and it has the potential to benefit 400 million inhabitants across Africa.
King Mohammed VI during his speech commemorating the green march anniversary on November 6th said “I want this to be a strategic project that benefits all of West Africa. A region that is home to more than $440 million people”.
A budget of $25 billion is set to be invested to carry out the implementation of the gas pipeline.
