Hidroelectrica de Cahora Bassa (Cahora Bassa Electric) one of the largest independent energy producers in Africa had by the end of November this year, reached and exceeded by over 11.5% its planned annual hydro-power production.

The target production for Cahora Bassa Electric was 12,814 GWh at the end of November but they reached and exceeded this target by 11.5% with 14,300 GWh production.

The chairperson of the HCB board of directors Muhambe Boavida said that if the conditions remain the same, there is a possibility of achieving a production of 15,693 GWh at the end of December. He stated “assuming that conditions remain unchanged, namely water availability, energy production, conversion and transport equipment as well as the performance of the company’s human capital, we should by 31 December have produced 15,693 GWh of energy”. This will represent an increase of around 4.7% compared to 2021.

On November 30th, the reservoir’s water level was 322.22 meters allowing the normal function of the enterprise with immediate implementation of production center plans and a management based on minimizing the impacts of flood in the lower Zambezi.
