Constructed by VKS Construction Company, the ongoing Smart Airport terminal building at the Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria would be completed and ready for commissioning in the first quarter of 2023.

This was made known to the public on Wednesday by the Project Consultant, Engr. Francis Uwah during an assessment tour of the facility led by the Special Assistant to the governor Udom Emmanuel on Research and Documentation, Mr Essien Ndueso.

According to the project consultant, he said that the construction company handling the project has exhibited commitment to the completion before the expiration of the governor’s tenure in office.

Also, he promised the people of Akwa Ibom that the new Smart terminal would make the international airport a regional hub, as well as boost tourism potential of the state.

Francis further went on to speak on the initial date of completion which is December 2022, as it was feasible due to many policies within the Nigeria framework,  and the difficulties in doing things within and outside Nigeria.

In addition, he listed some key features of the smart terminal building including digital self check-in by a robot, automated luggage screening and weighing, suspicious packages, vehicle counting, foot traffic analysis, license plate readers and many others.

Mr Essien Ndueso, SA to the Governor on Research and Documentation, described the massive strides recorded by his principal in the aviation sector as impressive and worthy of commendation.
