Record was broken in May, 2021 when a parent, in the persons of Mother Halima Cissé, 27, and her husband Abdelkader Arby, 36, based in Mali gave birth to nine babies (nonuplets) on the spot and had to return home after spending 19 months in the Intensive Care Unit of a specialist Ain Borja clinic in Casablanca, Morroco.

They were discharged on the 14th of December, 2022 and met with family and friends in  Mali’s capital in Bamako, from where they went to Timbuktu. 

One of the family friends disclosed that “It has been a long wait, with plenty of tears and emotions but everyone in the family is fit while everyone is delighted to come home. 

The Malian government has given a lot of support to the family which includes a beautifully designed home for a very big family in Timbuktu that is equipped with all they need.

The clinic staff at Casablanca acted like family to the nonuplet’s parents thereby making the environment emotional when they were about to leave as that has always been the plan.

The nonuplets which were delivered prematurely by Cesarean-Section surgery include four boys and five girls and have entered the Guinness World Record for the highest number of children to survive a single delivery.  This record superseded that of American ‘Octomom’ Nadya Suleman who gave birth to eight babies in 2009.  The nonuplets have joined their elder sister, Soda who is age four thereby making the children ten in number owned by Mother Halima and Mr. Abdelkader.  

One of the boys in the nonuplet was named after the King of Morocco Mohammed VI which serves as a tribute to the North African Kingdom where the nonuplets were successfully delivered. The other three boys are Bah, Elhadji and Oumar, while the five girls were named; Kadidia, Oumou, Adama, Fatouma and Hawa.
