For the entire month of December, a carnival with so many different activities is being held in Calabar, Cross River, Nigeria. This carnival is the pride of Nigeria, so many people from different parts of the world come to attend this festival. This carnival started in 2004 as the then governor of the state, Donald Duke, thought it was a great idea to boost tourism in the state. It is a month-long festival with so many activities.
The last week of the carnival is called the carnival week and during the 2022 edition, the 28th was the Calabar street parade and band of the year competition.
The South African Contingent, Odukpani Local Government Area and Passion 4 Band were declared the winners of the 2022 Carnival Calabar Band competition.
Odukpani Local Government Area won in cultural displays and the South African Band won in International parades.
The South African Band, Passion 4 band, recognized for their green outfit and stunt displays pulled 1,762 points, emerging first for the 11th time while beating 6 other bands.
This carnival has continued to gain acceptance internationally because of the renewed energy and creativity of the organizers and the other consultants that get things done.
It does not only showcase African culture but it is also a platform for the contingents to showcase their talents.
