South Africa to host the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants’  first council meeting, to begin on the 16th to 17th January, 2023, in Cape Town making it the first that Africa hosts the internationally attended meeting of CIMA’s global governing body.

Accounting, finance, and business leaders based in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Asia and other continents will attend the two-day meeting in person.

The two-day will focus on developing their understanding of challenges and opportunities for the accounting profession in Africa, as well as developing strategies to guide the profession globally in its mission to drive trust, opportunity and prosperity for individuals, organisations and the society as a whole.

Representing AICPA & CIMA, the FCMA, CGMA, CIMA President Melanie J. Kanaka said that “we are delighted to be hosting our first-ever CIMA council on the African continent, and specifically Cape Town, a city of opportunity for individuals and businesses”.

She added that the gathering in South Africa is to bring together leaders from all over the world to discuss the role the accounting and finance profession has in driving prosperity in Africa and in the world”.

Melanie also highlighted key topics that will be discussed during the meeting which includes “sharing insights and contributing to a profession-wide action plan to address key areas such as digital transformation; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); environmental, societal and governance (ESG) challenges; and the attraction of future generations of accountants and finance professionals”.

The CIMA is a world professional management accounting body based out of the UK which offers training and qualification in management accountancy and related courses. It is the largest and oldest management accounting body in the world with 115, 000 members.
