During the 2023 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ASWD), the president of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan chaired successful discussions with a Masdar delegation from UAE, which focused on the way forward for the execution of an exclusive Seychelles’ Electricity Generation plan.
The meeting was held with the Masdar Chief Green Hydrogen Officer, Mohammed Abdelqader El Ramahi and the Senior Manager of Project Management Services, Simon Braunigerr.
This is in accordance with the growth of Seychelles economy and the increased need to implement an electricity generation plan that will meet the long-term demands related with the rise in economic activities.
The meeting was an opportunity for Seychelles to propose to Masdar various projects for consideration that will get the country on track towards strengthening its role more in the global fight against climate change.
The country is also supportive of a transition towards integration of more renewable energy and the use of cleaner fuel for generation of electricity in the short to medium term.
Hence the proposal, there will be implementation of various key renewable energy projects proposed for Mahe, Praslin and La Digue, which includes photovoltaic (PV) projects in the form of Agri-Voltaic PV, Floating PV Systems, and PV plants.
Seychelles delegation present during the discussion include the Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change, Mr Flavien Joubert, the CEO for Public Utilities Corporation, Mr Joel Valmont, and the CEO for Meteorological Services, Mr Vincent Amelie.
