A Ghanaian remittance fintech called Zeepay has recently been granted approval by the Bank of Zambia to operate in its country.

The start-up fintech was granted approval to operate a new remittance outbound service directly from its Zeepay Mobile Money Wallet, as it established a partnership with Moneygram to help with its remittance efforts.

Zeepay is focused on the digital rails of connecting digital assets such as mobile money wallets, cards, ATMs, Bank accounts, and digital tokens to international Money Transfer operators, and other payment destinations.

According to the Co-founder and Managing Director of Zeepay, Andrew Takyi-Appiah, the fintech is excited for making it possible for Zambians to send money abroad via Zeepay’s mobile money wallet to 150 countries in actual time.

He added that the partnership with MoneyGram is to help widen the borders of Africa day by day, as he said “we are excited to be at the forefront of this revolutionary change”.

In 2022, Zeepay acquired about $10 million as part of its expansion attempts and also gained a presence in the Ethiopian market.

In April 2022, Zeepay’s 51% acquisition deal in Mangwee Mobile Money in Zambia, made the fintech a major shareholder of the company.
