The Jamaican Government has revealed plans to buy Nigeria-made vehicles from Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing (IVM), an automaker based in Nnewi, Southeastern Nigeria.

Accompanied by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Jamaican High Commissioner to Nigeria, Esmond Reid made this known on Saturday during a facility tour of the IVM plant in Anambra State.

During the facility tour, Mr. Reid described Innoson Vehicles as “Top Class”, as he promised to encourage citizens of Jamaica to come and see for themselves.

 Mr. Reid who was his first time visiting Nigeria said he was pleased with the opportunity of witnessing vehicle manufacturing and assembling happening in Nigeria.

He thanked the minister for facilitating his first-hand visit to the factory. “I congratulate the management of this company and I am very grateful to the minister for making this visit possible for me”.

He said this is also a chance to discuss commercial opportunities for sourcing vehicles from Nigeria”, as he will “consult with stakeholders in Jamaica to look at the timeline and determine the negotiations and engagements in sourcing the vehicles”.

The Minister, speaking to the Press during the facility tour commended the IVM group for the quality vehicles being manufactured for use all over the world, saying “every government official should be obliged to buy and use a Nigerian-manufactured car”.

Also, the CEO of Innoson Vehicles, Chief Innocent Chukwuma applauded the government for its support to local manufacturers in the country.
