Christian Atsu Twasam was a Ghanaian professional footballer born on the 10th of January 1992. He played primarily as a winger but was often deployed as an attacking midfielder or a left back.

Atsu was born in Ada Foah, Greater Accra Region.[3] He spent some of his education at the then Feyenoord Football Academy at Gomoa Fetteh, in the Central Region of Ghana which has now been changed to West African Football Academy at Sogakope, in the Volta Region of Ghana.

He arrived Porto at the age of 17 and on 14th May 2011, he was called up by the first team manager, Andrè Villas-Boas for a Premier League match against Maritimo, even though he did not leave the bench.

On the 1st of June, 2012, He won his first senior cap for the Ghana National Team. He was described by BBC as an excellent prospect. ESPN also corroborated that statement saying he was quick and technically impressive, they also said he was a potential future star for his national team. In 2013, he was in the Ghanaian squad for the Africa Cup of Nations held in South Africa. He was also selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He was named in the Team of the Tournament for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, where Ghana came fourth. He was called up for the 2019 edition in Egypt.

Apart from being a very good footballer, Atsu was a philanthropist, he gave so much to people who were struggling. Christian Atsu paid the fines of 53 poor people, who were in prison for petty crimes in Ghana in 2018. He also gave them money to start a business. He upgraded the football pitch in Awutu Prison Camp. He donated to schools and hundreds of items to an orphanage in Senya Berekum.

Unfortunately, the earthquake of Turkey claimed his life. He went missing on the 6th of February and it was feared that he was among those trapped. On the 18th of February his body was recovered.

His death was felt by everyone as he has impacted all the lives he has come across.
