The Mostaganem tramway system is 14 km long with two lines that accommodate more than 10,000 passengers to travel daily. It has 24 stations and the lines connect different districts of the town.
These lines will enable students to access various university campuses and provide quick access to the city center and different stations.
The Mostaganem tramway project was awarded to Alstom and Cosider by the Metro d’Alger (EMA) company.
Alstom, a french multinational producer operating in the railway transport market, was responsible for providing the whole system, telecommunications, and signaling systems, as well as the sub-stations, ticketing, and depot equipment.
A Joint-Venture, CITAL comprised of Alstom, Ferrovial, EMA, and SNTF supplied 25 seven-section and 43-metre-long Alstom Citadis low-floor tramcars.
Cosider, the Algerian company was involved in civil engineering works that included the rail lines, the catenary, and the traffic light signals.
Speaking on the occasion, the Alstom Managing Director, Algeria, Amar Chouaki said, “Alstom and its Algerian teams are proud to have contributed to the building of the whole Mostaganem tramway system and infrastructure in partnership with Cosider”.
In Algeria, there are seven new modern low-floor tram systems located in various major cities that provide current public transport services, including Algiers the country’s capital, Oran, Constantine, Sidi Bel Abbes, Ouargla, Setif, and the most recent city Mostaganem.
