• MOU on health and medical equipment signed by Zimbabwe and Iran.

A Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment, Medical Education, and Health System Management has been signed by Zimbabwe and Iran. 

Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, Zimbabwe’s vice president and minister of health and child care, signed the agreement on behalf of Zimbabwe while Dr. Bahram Einollahi, Iran’s minister of health and medical education, signed on behalf of Iran.

The two nations’ tight collaboration will hasten the execution of Zimbabwe’s national health strategy, which is supported by adequate universal health coverage. 

In addition to boasting a thriving manufacturing sector that meets more than 97 percent of its own medical needs, Iran has emerged as one of the world’s top destinations for medical tourists. 

Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), has noted their advancement and stated that Iran is a regional healthcare leader due to greater public investment and improved infrastructure.

VP Chiwenga and his delegation went to Iran’s House of Science and Technology and a medical equipment show yesterday in an effort to learn more about the country’s innovative structure.

Chiwenga said that Zimbabwe commends and respects the excellent relations that have prevailed between our two sisterly countries.

He added that Zimbabwe was interested in co-producing medical equipment and that Iran could use Harare as a springboard to access the African market via the African Continental Free Trade Area.
