- Central Organisation of Trade Unions, Kenya unveils first migrant resource center in Nairobi.
- It will help in analyzing migrant data and act as a resource center for migrant workers.
Kenya’s Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU-K) announces unveiling of the first migrant resource center in Nairobi.
COTU is a national trade union in Kenya and it was assisted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and UK Aid in setting up the migrant resource center.
The new center will help generate and update labor market information and also assist in analyzing migrant data to be used as an advocacy tool to create awareness of labor rights for workers as well as migrant workers.
According to a statement, “the center will disseminate all this data to our solidarity and social partners through online campaigns and other methods as may be relevant”.
In addition to acting as the labor migration desk, the resource center will also assist migrant workers who drop by seeking information about labor migration.
The establishment of the unit will likely be welcomed by the nation’s migrant workers.
The Union has kept track of several instances of people’s rights being violated by unfair labor practices.
Also, coming up on 7th March, the Central Organization of Trade Unions will host this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration in collaboration with Solidarity Center (ACILS). The ceremony will be held under the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” at the Solidarity Building.
