• Moi International Airport in Mombasa wins an international award as the best airport in Africa.
  • The award was based on ACI’s renowned Airport Service Quality survey.

The Moi International Airport (MIA) in Mombasa, Kenya won an international award as the best airport by size and region with under two million passengers per year in Africa Category for the year 2022.

This was revealed in a statement by the Kenya Airports Authority. The Mombasa airport was recognized by Airports Council International (ACI) for its exceptional customer service.

In the statement, Mr. Luis Felipe de Oliveira, the ACI World Director General stated that the award was based on ACI’s renowned Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey which captures passengers’ experience at all airport passenger contact points at more than 300 airports globally.

The award recognition comes after a difficult time for the country’s aviation industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Mr. Oliveira said that despite the challenges the airport has maintained its focus on providing a positive customer experience and proving its competence. He continued by congratulating the Moi International Airports’ entire crew on their achievement in the Airport Service Quality Awards.

Mr. Oliveira noted that the airport community, which consists of the airport personnel and a variety of other stakeholders, is said to be the driving force behind the awards which are selected by passengers. “Selected by passengers, these awards are powered by the airport community, which includes airport employees and a range of other stakeholders”, his words he said.

While giving his remarks, Mr. Alex Gitari, Managing Director of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), expressed his gratitude for the award, adding that the Authority is always striving to delight and enhance the experience of our customers. “This award encourages us to continue improving our customer service offering and we sincerely thank our customers for their valuable feedback”, he said.

As the world’s leading airport passenger service programme, Airport Service Quality (ASQ) is a programme used in ascertaining customer satisfaction with services at the airport, as provides achievable measurements to help airports drive their performance and deliver competitive services to passengers. The Airport Service Quality has about 400 participating airports in 95 countries.
