In Zambia, there is an annual national holiday celebrated on March 12 known as Youth Day. It is a day set aside to remember the sacrifices and important achievements made by young people in the 1960s to achieve the nation’s freedom. Many events are held to commemorate the day, including speeches, parades, music and dance performances, and cultural exhibitions.
For this year’s celebration, President Hakainde Hichilema oversaw the celebration of Zambia’s Youth Day on March 12th, 2023. This yearly celebration aims to recognize the brave young people who have helped the nation advance. “Transforming Minds for Accelerated Youth Development” is the theme for 2023.
The wreath-laying ceremony was presided over by President Hichilema, who was in Kitwe for the event. He urged Zambian youths to get together to revive the nation’s economy in his speech. In order to accomplish their aims and move the nation forward, he emphasized the value of teamwork and involvement.
The President gave the young people assurances on the creation of jobs, entrepreneurial opportunities, and empowerment. He stressed that the UPND government is carrying out targeted initiatives to give youths the tools they need to become independent.
Free education, access to land, entrepreneurial opportunities, meaningful employment, and involvement in governance are all included in the manifesto.
President Hichilema also cautioned the youth that handouts are not sustainable. The UPND Party’s platform is built on giving young people fundamental tools for empowerment rather than free stuff based on consumption.
Several of the young people in attendance expressed their support for the President’s goal of a better future for the nation after being moved by his address. The kids departed the commemorations with a renewed feeling of purpose and commitment to work toward changing their ideas for rapid youth development.
Zambia’s Youth Day also serves as a yearly reminder of the importance of youth to the growth of the nation. It is a chance for society and the government to acknowledge the young of the nation’s potential and to give them the resources and assistance they need to succeed.
