• Stellantis announces the launch of six FIAT carlines in Algeria to meet customers’ expectations in Algeria.

Multinational automotive manufacturing company, Stellantis recently announced the launch of FIAT brand in Algeria to meet the Algerian customer’s expectations with a wide of models. The company also announced plans to establish a manufacturing plant in South Africa in early March.

The FIAT brand launch was made known to the public during a ceremony that had in attendance relevant individuals in Algeria’s Ministry, the Ambassador of Algeria in Italy, the COO of Stellantis in the Middle East, and other related personnel.

With the ratification of the framework agreement on October 13, which launched the development of industrial, aftersales, and spare parts activities for FIAT, one of Stellantis’ iconic brands, as well as the development of the automotive sector in Algeria, this investment phase materializes the automotive specifications agreement.

According to the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Mr. Ali Aoun, the agreement of developing an automotive system in Algeria, portrays a historical symbolism that reflects the long-lasting pleasant relationship between both countries. He said, “by combining our efforts, this project will become a benchmark in terms of integrability and complementarity”.

Currently, Algeria is recognized as one of the major contributors to the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan under Stellantis Middle East and Africa (MEA). through the launch of FIAT brand in the country, Stellantis MEA would able to achieve its ambition of reaching one million vehicles being sold in the region by 2030 with 70% regional production autonomy to meet customers’ needs.

The first phase of investment will include Stellantis and its supplier providing approximately 200 million euros to manufacture the four models. By August, the Tafraoui-Oran plant construction phase will be completed, and production for the first FIAT 500 is planned for the end of 2023. It is anticipated to create nearly 2,000 new local positions by 2026, reaching a localization rate of over 30%, a production capacity of 90,000 vehicles each year, and ultimately produce four FIAT models.

“We are bringing expertise to the service of the FIAT project in Algeria to deliver state-of-art manufacturing and best-in-class commercial services to ensure the best customer experience in the market”, COO of Stellantis Middles East and Africa, Samir Cherfan said. He expressed his appreciation to the Algerian authorities for making the FIAT Project in Algeria possible.

The upcoming carlines include the Fiat 500 Hybrid, Fiat 500X, Fiat Tipo, Fiat Doblo, Fiat Scudo, and Fiat Ducato.
