SMD has recovered a 108.39 ct fancy pink diamond from the Kao mine in Lesotho.

Lesotho government co-owned and Namakwa Diamonds’ subsidiary Storm Mountain Diamonds (SMD) has recovered a 108.39 ct fancy pink diamond from the Kao mine in Lesotho.

Storm Mountain Diamonds states Diamonds, this sporadic Type IIa diamond is one of the largest pink diamonds ever recovered.

The Kao mine has produced some of the rarest vivid polished diamonds in the world, including the 47 ct Pink Eternity diamond in 2022, the 25 ct Pink Dawn, and the 21 ct Pink Palesa diamonds in 2021, as well as the 29 ct Rose of Kao in 2018.

The discovery has re-emphasized the mine’s position.

This latest discovery has re-emphasized the mine’s position as one of the world’s most important producers of exceptional pink diamonds, states SMD.

This natural resource is a spectacular fancy intense pink diamond weighing in at 108.39ct and was recovered on 23 March 2023 from Storm Mountain Diamonds’ Kao Mine in the kingdom of Lesotho, the mining company reports. The mining team in Lesotho has submitted a list of names for the exceptionally rare Type IIa gemstone.

The diamond is one of the most significant ones to have been found in Lesotho to date.

Commenting on the diamond, the minister of natural resources for Lesotho, Mohlomi Moleko, noted that the diamond marks one of the most significant ones to have been found in Lesotho to date. Namakwa marketing manager Debbie Bowen says the diamond has not been named yet, nor has it been decided how it will be sold.

Storm Mountain Diamonds is now a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
