At this year’s season of the “Call for Score” competition put together by the Film Scoring Academy of Europe and the European Recording Orchestra, Mina Samy Egyptian music producer and film composer emerged as one of the top five composers, making the headlines.

Out of a total of 700 competing composers, Samy was the only Egyptian and African to secure a place in the top five spots. 

Mina Samy is an Egyptian composer and music producer based in London who is dedicated to a life of craft and art to telling stories through music. Samy told stories as a singer and a choir leader and also worked with storytellers to create all shades of drama, comedy, and thrill. He also created stories as a musical theatre performer and arranger and finally began the journey of understanding human psychology and emotion as a film composer.

Samy’s career in the film-music industry comes with an array of remarkable achievements. In 2021 he received a scholarship at the Sawiris Arts and Culture and also won a “Silver Medal of outstanding achievement in Music Composition” at the Global Music Awards earlier in January this year.

After receiving the scholarship, he later pursued his master’s degree in Film Scoring at London’s Royal College of Music, where he succeeded and eventually became the Film Scoring Society president for its 2022/2023 session.

He worked alongside top professionals and organized master classes in collaboration with award-winning film composers and specialists to share their knowledge. 

Samy has also worked at reputable institutions including the Royal College of Arts and the London Film School. He has composed for various short films that have received official praise at UK film festivals and globally, and his work features prominently in prominent advertising campaigns such as the UAE governmental Census 2023, a Coronavirus campaign by WHO and UNICEF Egypt directed by Egyptian director Tamer Ashry, and a Bosch Gulf campaign.

His upcoming projects include working collaborations with Egyptian singers Nesma Mahgoub and Hana Ghoneim, a musical short film with Egyptian director and writer Abdelaziz al-Naggar, and “The Tipping Point” by the London Film School.
