The widely awaited Kanye stadium in Botswana is now under development, with completion expected in February 2024. At a full council meeting on Monday, Kanye District Council Chairman Mr. Mpho Dithole made this announcement.
According to Mr. Dithole, the prestigious project would cost about P8.4 million, and the contract has been given to EH Construction Company, doing business as Excavator Hire.
He verified that the first phase, which involves building a football field, is expected to be completed by February 28, 2023, and that the contractor has already mobilized on-site to begin work.
He added that earthworks had already started and the site had already been cleared.
According to Mr. Dithole, this project was much more than just constructing a sports complex; it was an important step in enhancing the sports growth of the community and promoting harmony and cooperation.
“The development of this football field will serve as a pillar in our initiatives to develop regional talent and serve as a center for community involvement.
“Our goal is to make this stadium a symbol of excellence and unity, a meeting point for good sportsmanship, community spirit, and constructive competition,” he stated.
When the new stadium is finished, Mr. Dithole added, it will be a monument to their commitment to community development and sports advancement.
He also disclosed that the council was still working on several streetlights in an attempt to raise the village’s illumination levels. He attested to the fact that the entire 500,000 Pula had been set aside for the upkeep of the lamps surrounding Kanye.
Mr. Dithole went on to say that they had already bought 50 solar batteries and 121 LED streetlight fittings, and the project was at an advanced stage of procurement. By the end of December 2023, it was anticipated that the streetlight poles would be purchased.
