At the age of 34, Yemi Aládé, the Nigerian Afropop singer, expressed her excitement about working with renowned African musicians such as the iconic Ivorian group Magic System and Egyptian singer Mohamed Ramadan to produce the theme song for the African Cup of Nations 2024. Having started her career in 2009, she values the opportunity to contribute to the AFCON 2024 Anthem.

Yemi Alade, in a recent interview with journalists, shared her excitement about the official AFCON anthem titled ‘Akwaba,’ which translates to ‘welcome’ in Baoule. Produced by the French maestro Dany Synthe, the anthem’s accompanying video was released under Universal Music Africa.

Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to represent Africa, Yemi Alade emphasized the significance of fostering healthy competition in a sport cherished globally. Being part of the official AFCON anthem was, for her, a dream come true, especially collaborating with other African music royalties in the creative process.

In anticipation of the competition, Yemi Alade conveyed optimism about the ability of African footballers to capture the interest of the global football community. Reflecting on her involvement, she stated, “Honestly, it’s an honor to represent my continent and encourage healthy competition in a sport loved globally. It’s a dream come true for me to have created the official anthem for AFCON alongside African music royalties.”

As she looks ahead, the ‘Johnny’ crooner sees this collaboration as a platform to showcase the rich musical talent of Africa while contributing to the cultural vibrancy of the tournament. Yemi Alade’s words echo her commitment to the celebration of African identity and the role of music in uniting people across borders.

Anticipating the upcoming AFCON, Yemi Alade expressed her belief that the global audience will fervently support their favorite countries during the tournament, envisioning it as a pivotal platform for players’ career launches. She eagerly awaits the acknowledgment of female championships worldwide and encourages active participation in supporting African football, whether by attending games in Ivory Coast or watching on TV.

Reflecting on her notable 2023, marked by Grammy nominations and a successful ‘African Baddie’ tour across 40 countries, Yemi Alade assured her fans that she has more to offer in 2024. Teasing a year-end treat, ‘Mamapiano,’ she hinted at upcoming collaborations and new music projects.
