At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Global Citizen – an international advocacy organization, creative imprint PgLang, and the President of Ghana alongside the President of Rwanda announced that Ghana will join Rwanda as a host nation for Move Afrika 2024, themed ‘A Global Citizen Experience Tour’.

The announcement comes after the inaugural Move Afrika: Rwanda in December 2023, headlined by Grammy Award, Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Kendrick Lamar, organized by Global Citizen and pgLang, alongside the Rwanda Development Board.

As the first of its kind, Move Afrika is a long-term, large-scale effort to pioneer an international music touring circuit across Africa which in turn drives economic investment, creates jobs, and supports entrepreneurship opportunities in each host country.

More than a thousand Rwandans were hired by the event, which also utilized 75% of local crew and production staff. Opportunities for skill development and international event training were given special attention.

Numerous people hailed the show as the most successful live music event to be held in Rwanda. Zuchu, Bruce Melodie, DJ TOXXYK, Sherrie Silver, Ariel Wayz, Kivumbi King, and Bruce The 1st were among the performers.

In 2022, Global Citizen had the incredible Global Citizen Festival: Accra. This year, the organization is delighted to be back in Ghana with Move Afrika: Ghana.

According to the Ghanaian government’s post-event analysis, the festival had a significant social and economic impact: over 5000 people traveled to Ghana specifically for the festival; over 1000 Ghanaians were employed for the event; hotel occupancy increased to 75%; and over 2 million global citizens took action as part of advocacy efforts to End Extreme Poverty NOW. These figures represent just a small portion of the festival’s economic and social impact.

Over 100 million music fans worldwide witnessed amazing live performances by Usher, SZA, Stormzy, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, TEMS, and Uncle Waffles, hosted by Danai Gurira.

Held in Kigali in December 2023, the inaugural Move Afrika event marked the beginning of an annual, multi-country tour that will transform live entertainment in Africa while also funding local economies, skill development, and young entrepreneurship.

The Move Afrika tour schedule will see new nations added annually with the goal of reaching three countries by 2024 and five by 2025. Move Afrika will create an unparalleled experience for both artists and fans, establishing a new benchmark for touring entertainment throughout the continent.

With time, these occasions will raise the demand for tours by both domestic and foreign performers, strengthen local economies, generate employment opportunities, and expand the live entertainment industry in the host towns.
