At only 19 years old, Lisha Dachor, hailing from Plateau state, Nigeria, embraced an extraordinary feat: meticulously painting over 4,000 nails within a mere 72-hour span. Using an array of vibrant hues such as blue, pink, and purple, she embellished numerous fingernails at a local events center in her hometown.
The culmination of her three-day marathon came to a nail-biting finish on Wednesday. To potentially break the Guinness World Record (GWR), Dachor had to meticulously paint 60 fingernails per hour, adhering strictly to GWR regulations. Now, she eagerly awaits the review of her evidence by GWR.
Dachor’s drive for this challenge extends far beyond personal accomplishment; she seeks to reshape perceptions surrounding teenage mothers, a group she belongs to herself. “My goal is to inspire hope, particularly among single mothers, as many believe we lack potential,” she conveyed to the BBC.
With almost three years of experience as a skilled nail technician, Dachor also strives to highlight women from northern Nigeria. Furthermore, she envisions her record-breaking attempt as a means to draw attention to Plateau, her home state, situated at the crossroads of Nigeria’s Muslim north and Christian south.
Despite its picturesque landscapes, Plateau has grappled with persistent insecurity and tension among diverse ethnic and religious communities.
Dachor sees highlighting Plateau’s positive attributes as a way to confront prevailing negative stereotypes. “People tend to judge the Plateau based solely on its surface. Beyond the ethnic challenges, Plateau is a stunning locale. I received support from individuals of all ethnic backgrounds during this endeavour,” she stressed.
