Just six years following her debut with the Zambian team, footballer Racheal Kundananji has achieved the status of the world’s priciest women’s player.
The 23-year-old has secured a contract with Bay FC in the American National Women’s Soccer League valued at $860,000, luring her away from Madrid CFF.
Kundananji has made history as the inaugural African player, regardless of gender, to surpass a global transfer record, overshadowing the previous female benchmark of £400,000 set in a transaction involving Keira Walsh and Barcelona in 2022.
Since her promising debut in 2018, where she netted three goals for Zambia at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, her trajectory has been meteoric. During her 18-month tenure with Madrid, she scored 33 Liga F goals in 43 matches.
The Zambian international will join forces with Nigerian sensation Asisat Oshoala, a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, creating a formidable duo that is sure to attract envy from clubs worldwide.
