The Katsina State Government has restated its commitment to preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural legacy and customs, particularly through efforts to boost tourism. This pledge came from Bala Zango, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, at the Season 3 Dambe Warriors Circuit Fight 11 Competition, a traditional boxing event held at the Katsina Open Air Theatre.

Zango emphasized Katsina’s culture-friendly disposition, expressing the government’s readiness to host inter-local government traditional boxing contests to further elevate the state’s cultural heritage. Meanwhile, Chidi Anyina, co-founder of the Dambe competition, underlined the economic prospects of Dambe, describing it as a traditional form of amusement capable of attracting investors and positively impacting the local economy.

Anyina detailed plans to elevate Dambe onto the global platform through a structured league featuring fighters from various states, including Katsina, Niger, Abuja, and Kano. The league will encompass different weight divisions, offering cash prizes and promotional opportunities to victors, with the aim of spotlighting Dambe as a distinctive facet of Nigerian culture and drawing investment from both domestic and international sources.

At the competition, fighters from diverse states showcased their prowess, culminating in Autan Kudawa from Kano State emerging victorious with 88 points. The event underscored the allure and promise of Dambe as both a cultural treasure and tourist draw, in line with the Katsina State Government’s commitment to advancing its cultural heritage and traditions.
