Nigeria is poised to host the upcoming edition of the Under-19 Volleyball Nations Cup for both men and women.
In 2022, Morocco hosted the U-19 boys’ competition in El Jadida, where Nigeria emerged as champions by defeating Egypt 3-0 in the final. Meanwhile, Nigeria hosted the 16th edition of the girls’ volleyball championship in Abuja, where Egypt secured victory with a 3-1 win over Cameroon in the final, while Nigeria finished third.
While the specifics of the hosting arrangements are still under development, our correspondent has learned that the Nigeria Volleyball Federation will convene with the African Volleyball Confederation to outline their plans for the championship.
“Nigeria is slated to host both the men’s and women’s volleyball Nations Cup, and preparations are already in motion,” stated Dare Kuti, media assistant to the president of the volleyball federation, during an interaction with reporters.
“Although a specific date has not been finalized, the board will convene shortly to discuss and communicate with CAVB for a potential schedule. Following their board meeting in Nigeria, they will liaise with CAVB accordingly.”
The champions of 2022 were the inaugural winners under the U-19 format, replacing the former U-18 format, as mandated by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). This alteration in age category aligns with the changes made to the Girls’ Youth World Championship, transitioning from U-18 to U-19.
