In line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will present the Commission’s vision for the Nigerian capital market at the Second Capital Market Committee (CMC) meeting.
The SEC has announced that next week’s meeting aims to devise strategies to enhance the capital market’s role in economic growth and development. This includes initiatives to attract investment, improve market efficiency, and protect investor interests.
The SEC stated, “The meeting will convene key stakeholders in the Nigerian capital market to review the current industry landscape, regulatory framework, and strategies for future development. Participants will share ideas and reaffirm their dedication to fostering a dynamic investment environment marked by innovation, sustainability, and investor protection.”
“We need to create a supportive environment for the capital market to flourish and make a significant contribution to the country’s economic progress,” the SEC added.
The meeting will address critical market issues and ensure comprehensive consideration of all concerns. It will involve reviewing reports from technical committees, market infrastructure, and industry observers, as well as discussing emerging market trends.
“We aim to ensure alignment among stakeholders and collective focus on shared objectives,” the SEC noted.
The Capital Market Committee (CMC) is a broad industry group that includes the SEC, capital market operators, trade groups, and other stakeholders. The CMC serves as a forum for dialogue, idea exchange, and collaboration on market growth and future direction.
The SEC emphasized the need for cooperation among all parties. “Collaborative efforts are essential to building a strong investment climate characterized by innovation, sustainability, and investor protection.”
The meeting will include CEOs from all registered capital market firms, such as brokers/dealers, investment advisers, custodians, and fund/portfolio managers.
“We aim to ensure full engagement and commitment from all stakeholders in the advancement of the capital market,” the SEC concluded.
