      On June 8, BET announced the BET Awards Nominees for 2023. The BET Awards will be held on June 25, 2023, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, to celebrate the best in black entertainment. This year’s nominees represent a diverse range of talent from around the world, including Africans, but Nigerian stars appear to be taking the spotlight.


      Burna Boy, who previously won the Best International Act category at the 2021 BET Awards,claims the top spot among other African nominees with four nominations. Burna Boy’s nominations include:


      Best International Act, Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Video Director Of The Year, and Viewer’s Choice Award.


      Tems follows with three nominations in the categories of: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Collaboration (“Wait For U”  Future Feat. Drake & Tems) and Viewer’s Choice Award.


      Wizkid who won ‘Best Collaboration’ in 2022 has been nominated in the same category  (“Call Me Every Day” Chris Brown Feat. Wizkid)


      Ayra Starr is receiving her first BET award nomination. She has been nominated in the best Best International Act category.


      Asake also being nominated for the first time received a nomination in the Viewer’s Choice:Best New International Act category.


      Other African stars that has been nominated include:


      Uncle Waffles and K.O from South Africa who have been nominated for the BET Best International Act Award.


      Libianca (Cameroon), Camidoh (Ghana) and Pabi Cooper (South Africa) have been nominated for the BET Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act Award
