The Eko Atlantic City, also known as the Eko Atlantic in Lagos State, Nigeria. It is a Nigerian International Commerce city being developed on land reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean, on which after completion it will accommodate almost 250,000 people and 150,000 daily commuters flow. It was designed to help in stopping Lagos city’s coastline erosion.
The Eko Atlantic City borders the Victoria Island district of Lagos city, with the phase 1 side of Lekki to the north while the remaining borders are a coastline. It is constructed to grow as the next generation of property in Africa with a total of 10 districts spread across nearly 10 square kilometers (3.9 sq mi) of land area. It plans to fulfill the needs for residential, commercial, financial, and tourist accommodations.
The development is on an agreement of a Public-private partnership. The private companies and investors are the ones providing the funding while the Lagos State Government is standing as a strategic partner supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
China Communications Construction Group is the contractor for the development, they are a company working in the marine dredging and landfill operation field. Still on the scheme are the consultants who are transport and traffic experts, Royal Haskoning, and ar + h Architects.
It is considered the largest in the world, to be completed in 2027. Its design architect is New York-based Ennead Architects LLP. With an estimate of $95 million that would be invested in the local economy over the course of the project, the new consulate would directly benefit Nigerians by employing roughly 2,500 Nigerians which includes engineers, architects, artisans, administrative personnel, and construction workers. It will also give a leverage to acquire new technical skills and safety awareness that will make them stand out in the local job market.
The first phase of the development has been launched and among the buildings to be constructed is a 26-story building that is called Azuri Peninsula which will have 120 luxury apartments. It will also contain a five-star Marina and yacht club with an attractive walkway, high-end shops, cafes and a wealth of amenities in a curated and sophisticated environment.
The developer and city planner company for Eko Atlantic city is South Energyx Nigeria Ltd, they revealed the development plan for the first phase of the city development.
