The year 1997 experienced the resignation of one of Microsoft’s brightest software engineers in the United States, Patrick Awuah, originally from Ghana.
Patrick Awuah had spent almost a decade working in the United States with Microsoft as a Software Engineer. After this, he returned home to Ghana where he founded Asheshi University which educates young Africans who will be the next generation of leaders. The school graduated its first set of students in 2006.
Mr. Awuah had a goal of educating the next generation of African leaders when he left Microsoft in 1997 and relocated to Ghana. He upgraded his knowledge by attending the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley where he was also able to map out a business plan for Asheshi University. This was after he graduated with an MBA from the business school in 1999.
Patrick Awuah is still the serving president of Asheshi University with so many achievements and honours to his name. The Order of the Volta Award was given to Awuah by then President John Kuffour in 2007 in a bid to recognize his contributions to Ghanaian tertiary education.

Mr. Patrick won the John P. McNulty Prize in 2009 while he was awarded the 87th most creative business person by Fast Company in 2010. In 2014, He also received The Elise and Walter A. Haas International Award which is specially reserved for UC Berkeley alumni who have distinguished records of service to their native country.
Moreso, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship named Awuah the best social entrepreneur in the same year 2014, while he was listed as number 40 of the world’s 50 greatest leaders in 2015 and was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship. Awuah also received a major global education award, the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) prize in 2017.
Mr. Patrick Awuah was born in 1965 in Accra, Ghana, and married to Mrs. Rebecca Awuah. He is an astute Ghanaian educator, engineer, and entrepreneur.
