George Weah, the Liberian President received the prestigious Friends of Zion Award for his efforts to enhance ties between Israel and Liberia from Friends of Zion(FOZ) President Michael Evans and Israel Foreign Minister Eli Cohen at the conclusion of a visit.
Shimon Peres, who served as Israel’s ninth president and the organization’s first international chairman, established the Friends of Zion Award. Including former US President George W. Bush, former US President Donald Trump, and former Vice President Mike Pence, it has been presented to over 23 global leaders.
Michael Evans, the president of FOZ, who gave the award, recalled President Weah’s steadfast support for the Jewish people and the State of Israel throughout the world, including at the United Nations and other fora.
“I wish to congratulate George Weah on becoming president of Liberia. We must not overlook the fact that Liberia was one of only two African nations to support the creation of the State of Israel during the UN vote on partition, Evans remarked.
“Due to the close economic and commercial links between Liberia and Israel, the people of Liberia still have a unique fondness for the State of Israel. President George Weah has improved relations and cordial affinity between the two nations since he was elected,” noting the Friends of Zion Museum is your home just as Israel is your home. If you support Israel, you support the Jewish people”.
President Weah expressed his gratitude to the Friends of Zion for the honor and reaffirmed his dedication to upholding the rights of the Jewish people and promoting world peace.
“I am excited to receive this prestigious Award and to stand with many other high-profile leaders who received this award,” he said. “Liberia loves and stands by Israel and we will continue to support Israel and strengthen the ties between the two countries.”
“This award motivates me to continue what I have been doing for the Jewish people and Israel,” President Weah added.
Libya is one of Israel’s best friends in Africa, according to foreign minister Eli Cohen. “I appreciate George Weah, the president of Liberia, for his support of Israel. We decided to collaborate in order to expand our collaboration in the areas of energy, agriculture, and water while utilizing Israeli expertise and supporting business delegations between Israel and Liberia,” he said.
The ceremony was held at the Friends of Zion Museum, which Minister Cohen complimented for also presenting the award to the president of Liberia. He emphasized the significance of the Friends of Zion group and its initiatives for the State of Israel, led by FOZ President Michael Evans and FOZ Founder Dr. Mike Evans.
