• The Mozambican government intends to partner with Brazil on civil aviation safety.

The government of Mozambique plans to partner with Brazil in civil aviation to acquire new techniques in flight safety and meet the recommendations imposed by international institutions that regulate this matter. The Mozambican Civil Aviation Institute (IACM) met sometime last week with a team of representatives from the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) in order to establish this partnership initiative.

Following the meeting, Mateus Magala, Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Communications, and Ademar Seabra, the Ambassador of Brazil arrived at an agreement to continue the actions underway to implement this initiative that will complement the ongoing reforms in the restructuring of Mozambican Civil Aviation.

The cooperation in air safety between both countries symbolizes the continuity of  Brazil’s long-standing strategic partner role in the growth of Mozambican civil aviation. Brazil and Mozambique have already established a number of partnerships, with an emphasis on the purchase of Embraer aircraft, technical assistance, and training, among other areas of cooperation.

Under this initiative, institutions from both nations will be able to share their knowledge and experience in the fields of management and operational safety. The  Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) team is now in Maputo to talk about the conditions for cooperation with the IACM with the intention of putting the project into effect.

While Mozambique and Brazil collaborate on aviation safety, more advancements are anticipated in the near future. Minister Magala has been outlining a number of promising initiatives regarding rail and road access to the nation, under measure 11 of Mozambique’s economic stimulus package (PAE) which was launched by President Niusy last August, aimed at improving the competitiveness of national airports and logistics corridors.

In response to the financial and operational difficulties that Mozambique Airlines (LAM) is currently experiencing, the government had pledged to propose significant adjustments by March of this year.
