Nigeria’s Tobiloba Amusan was named 2022 Africa’s Best Female Athlete of the Year by the Confederation of African Athletics on Tuesday.

Amusan was the winner at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and also the World Championships in Oregon where she had set a new World record of 12.12s in the Hurdles competition. 

She as well won the Diamond League trophy for the second time in the season spotting her rating as one of the world’s best and Africa’s undisputed number one at the moment.

Also, in second and third place is Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon and Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey who are both world champions in the 1500m and 1000m tournament.

She started off 2022 with successful defence of her feat as African Championships title in Mauritius earlier in June, then she went to Paris to up her 12.42 seconds African record and ran 12.41 seconds.

Also, at the All Nigerian Championships in Edo State she stressless erased the 12.63 seconds record by Angela Atede in 1997 as she added another title feat to herself, setting a new record of 12.58 seconds. 

Her biggest feat was at Oregon where she ran to a world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinals and a 12.06 seconds in the final to win the gold medal.

In addition, Morocco Soufiane El Bakkali was ranked as Africa’s Best Male Athlete, with Kenyan duo of Eluid Kipchoge and Emmanuel Korir at 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
