The Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt, in partnership with foreign companies, has proposed plans to produce 76 medications of high value, including those for cancer treatment by the end of 2023.

This was made public by Olfat Ghorab, an official at the Ministry of Health and Population, who clarified that the plan would secure such medications at half the price and create jobs for the graduates of schools of Pharmacology and science.

She revealed that the plans for the production of medications will be carried out in collaboration with American and French companies.

Ashraf Hatem, the Head of the Healthcare Committee at the House of Representatives said that Egypt has no shortage in medicinal drugs having local companies fulfilling 90% of needs.

The Presidential Adviser for Health and Preventive Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din reiterated in March that Egyptian pharmaceutical companies had not been affected by the crisis going on in Russia and Ukraine.

He shared that companies have strategic reserves for pharmaceutical materials and a sufficient supply for local production, clarifying that if by chance there is a shortage in the local market, the government would proceed to suspend medicine exports.

Egypt’s exports of medicines had exceptionally risen by 35% as declared by Tamer Essam, the Chairman of the Medicinal Drugs Authority in January.
