In the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Youth Engaged in Cybersecurity Threat Competition held in Lome, Togo, Liberia has emerged as one of the overall winners. The ECOWAS Youth Engaged in Cybersecurity Competition is a venue for inspiring and motivating the next generation to enter this vital industry. It highlights the significance of cybersecurity in the current digital era with a focus on safeguarding the digital future.
Four outstanding Liberian information technology (ICT) experts, led by Victor K. Jarlwood, Jr., recently left Liberia for Lome, Togo to compete in the grand final of the ECOWAS Youth Engaged Cyberthreat competition on behalf of Liberia.
The group dubbed “Cyber Warriors” departed the nation late Friday night via Roberts International Airport (RIA) to participate in the ECOWAS practical grand final. During the ECOWAS Cybersecurity (CTF) competition that took place in Lome, Togo from October 16–18, 2023, all eyes were on Liberia’s accomplished cyber squad, “Liberia Cyber Warriors.”
Young, brilliant cyber security champions from every ECOWAS member state participated in the tournament to fight for the top spot in the organization’s youth rankings.
Liberia’s Cyber Warriors Team, led by young ICT expert Victor Jarlwoods, assisted in securing victory and further cemented Liberia’s position as a leader in cybersecurity within the ECOWAS region. Mr. Jarlwood described the procedure as extremely difficult and rigorous in an exclusive chat on WhatsApp on October 18, 2023.

According to Jarlwoods, in a display of talent and commitment young cybersecurity enthusiasts from Liberia competed alongside their colleagues from the rest of the ECOWAS region,
He said that the competition brought together the best minds in the industry and tested their cybersecurity talents by presenting them with difficult situations and practical problems. “We demonstrated exceptional technical proficiency and innovative problem-solving abilities, solidifying our place among the winners of the competition.”
He claimed that in addition to demonstrating their dedication, their exceptional performance demonstrated the government’s and local institutions’ commitment to developing and equipping the cybersecurity community.
Mr. Jarlwoods expressed pride and excitement at Liberia’s success in this competition, noting that it is evidence of the nation’s dedication to developing a strong and knowledgeable cybersecurity workforce.
He continued by saying that the cybersecurity community in Liberia is well-positioned to meet the challenges of the digital world as technology continues to advance and take on a bigger role in people’s lives.
