Morocco Announces Friendly Games Ahead of 2023 Women’s World Cup.


On Wednesday, the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF) announced that the Women’s national football team is warming up for the forthcoming 2023 World Cup with a series of friendly games in preparation for next month’s World tournament. 

The Moroccan football governing body has disclosed the three countries that the team, led by coach Reynald Pedros, will face in their preparations for the tournament scheduled to take place from 20th July to August 20th in Australia and New Zealand.

Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses will kick off their friendly fixtures against Italy on July 1, then a match scheduled against Switzerland on July 5. The third and last friendly match for them will take place on July 16 against Jamaica as stated in the FRMF statement. However, venues for these matches have yet to be announced.

The Lionesses team will have numerous opportunities to improve their tactics and develop team camaraderie throughout the World Cup warm-up games.

As they attempt to attain their optimum form prior to the famous competition, coach Reynald Pedros will constantly analyze his players’ performances during these games. The North African women’s national team will be competing in their first Women’s World Cup, and they will face difficult opponents.

The Lionesses have been drawn in Group H alongside Colombia, Germany, and South Korea in the 2023 World Cup. they will commence their World Cup campaign on July 24 against Germany two-time champions and runners-up in 1995. 

On July 30, they will face South Korea, a team that has reached the round of 16 twice (2003 and 2015) and was eliminated in the group stage only once (2019). While on August 3, the Lionesses will play their final group match against Colombia.

The Cafeteras took part in two prior iterations but were eliminated both times in the round of 16.

A major turning point for Moroccan women’s football is the country’s participation in the World Cup. A new generation of female football players will definitely be motivated by the team’s development and accomplishments on the international scene, which will boost the sport’s popularity in Morocco.
