In modern society, the internet is a very important tool as it helps connect people and help people access information. The advantages of the internet as a tool cannot be overemphasized. However, the freedom to access this tool is as important as this tool itself.

Some countries restrict their citizens from accessing certain websites and social media  pages or slow down their connection. Some prevent certain kinds of speech and inhibit political activism. It’s as bad as a citizen being arrested or physically attacked for their posts.

In a new study by Proxyrack, a data collection company, Nigeria has the strongest internet freedom in Africa. In the whole world, it ranks tenth for the strongest internet freedom with a censorship of 3/11.

From this study, Nigeria takes the top spot in Africa with an internet freedom score of 57 out of 100. The survey gives a country a score out of 100 for the internet freedom the citizens enjoy, including the extent to which they can access the internet. Some factors considered were the extent of banning and restrictions of torrents, political media, social media, VPN and messaging VolP apps as reported by premium times.
