On Saturday, Tunisia declared its intention to join the group of developing nations known as the BRICS, which also consists of South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Speaking on behalf of the pro-Tunisian President Kais Saeid and the pro-presidential July 25 Movement in Tunisia, Mahmoud bin Mabrouk stated that his nation intends to join the BRICS nations group.
No orders or meddling in the internal affairs of Tunisia will be tolerated. While we are negotiating the terms, we are refusing to follow orders and the EU’s agenda, bin Mabrouk told the Arab News Agency. Tunisian President Kais Saied had expressed his disapproval of what he called the International Monetary Fund’s “dictates” to lend Tunisia $1.9 billion.
“A political, economic, and financial option that will allow Tunisia to open up to the new world,” according to Mabrouk, was provided by the BRICS countries. He emphasized that Tunisia’s membership in the organization would bring it significant economic benefits, which would favorably impact the nation’s social conditions.
An agreement to join the “Belt and Road” program, launched by China in 2013, was signed by Tunisia in 2018.
Bin Mabrouk continued, “We will also announce our decision to join BRICS once Algeria indicated that it will join the group.” The Alegria had previously made plans to join the BRICS organization the following year.
