Angola, Djibouti Move to Bolster Bilateral Cooperation.


On Friday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia, Miguel Domingos Bembe, and Djibouti ambassador to Ethiopia, Asbi Mahamoud Eybe had a meeting and both parties agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two African nations. 

During the meeting, the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia said that the counterparts agreed that the boost of cooperation should take into account the potentialities and opportunities from both countries.

Both parties identified sectors that are of top priority including the political, diplomatic, defense, security, trade, industry, logistics, agriculture, agribusiness, transport, infrastructure, and energy sectors. 

In the aspect of the political and diplomatic sector, the two diplomats considered it essential to complete the negotiation process of the General Agreement for Cooperation in the Economic, Technical, Scientific, and Cultural Fields. 

Also, they looked towards negotiating and signing the Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Political Consultations and the Agreement on Visa Waiver for Diplomatic and Service passports.

Mr.  Miguel Domingos Bembe who was recently appointed as non-resident ambassador to Djibouti from Angola, at the end of the meeting expressed his willingness to make a working visit to that country. The ambassador attended a briefing on the implementing of the “Pretoria Peace Agreement and the Transitional Justice Policy Process” on Friday.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Mr Demeke Mekonnen chaired the meeting and was also attended by Mr. Gedion Timothewos, the Minister of Justice. 

During the meeting which was mainly dedicated to the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Addis Ababa, the two Ethiopian leaders highlighted the degree of progress and implementation of the agreement.

The agreement is a Diploma inked by the Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), with the mediation of the AU, on 2nd November 2022 in Pretoria, South Africa. AL/MRA/jmc
